Finding land, a builder, the right floor plan...it is all part of a long process that can seem overwhelming at first.
With a good plan, some patience, and the right contractor on your side, you will see that home begin to take shape!
To help you get started, we have put together a few important first steps to starting your build:
The Land
The right piece of property to build on is top of the list.
Here are some things to consider:
- Is the land ready to build on? Some property needs preparation before building can begin.
- What are the lot restrictions? Depending on where you build, you may have certain size and type of home restrictions.
- Is the direction of the lot appropriate for your build? You will want to consider the direction you would like your home to face!
Construction Financing
Before you build, consider your budget. How much are you looking to spend on land and the entire build? Speaking with your bank and getting pre-approved will help you choose the right property, size of home, and finish work.
Select Your Floor Plan
Now comes the fun part: choosing your floor plan!
- Square footage: How much space do you need? One story or two?
- The layout: Would you like your home to be more open or sectioned?
- Storage: How much closet space do you need? Does your kitchen need additional space?
- Garage: Do you need a one-car or two-car garage? Where will the garage be built on the house?
Find Your Builder
The contractor you choose for your new home construction is very important.
They should be licensed and insured, have experience, and have a portfolio of quality work.
A good contractor will know the necessary permits you will need, walk your site with you to identify any potential issues, and help you review your floor plan to ensure you’re getting the home you are dreaming of!
